Article 3 : Scope and Objectives of the Federation
The Federation is concerned with the co-ordination and stimulation of activities of European countries in the areas of science, technology and applications of synthetic and natural macromolecules.
It will encourage co-operation in and promote advancement of education, research and development in polymer science and technology among member bodies.
It can be addressed by European and national authorities on matters concerning developments and requirements in polymer science and technology.
These objectives may be achieved by :
a) an efficient dissemination of information among member bodies ;
b) encouragement of co-operative research and development ventures, especially in areas of high capital outlay ;
c) co-ordination and rationalisation of research activities in selected fields in order to maximise use of human and capital resources ;
d) co-ordination and sponsorship of meetings, conferences and workshops on a European basis to meet mutual needs ;
e) creation and maintenance of constructive relations with the European Communities and other relevant organizations ;
f) encouragement of the exchange of young scientists amongst European countries.

Article 6 : Management
The business of the Federation shall be conducted by a Committee comprising :
a) The Secretariat as defined in article 7.
b) Members or representatives from each of the participating bodies who shall sit as ordinary Committee members (article 8, a & b).
c) Members who may be co-opted at the discretion of the Committee (article 8, c).

Article 7 : Secretariat
a) The Secretariat shall consist of the chairman, the past chairman, the chairman-elect and the general secretary. They shall be chosen by the General Asssembly.
b) The chairmanship shall be held by a representative of a given country for a period not exceeding two consecutive years. The general secretary is elected by the General Assembly for a period of 4 years and can be reelected.
c) The duties of the Secretariat shall be to co-ordinate the activities of the Federation and to ensure a rapid and efficient exchange of information amongst the participating bodies. The expenses incurred in such duties will be borne when possible by the organizations to which the members of the Secretariat belong.

Article 8 : Committee Members
a) In general, the participating bodies of each country shall select one or two members to represent their interest at the Committee meetings of the Federation, save in those cases where more than one participating body in a single country is directly affiliated to the Federation. In such cases, each affiliated body may be represented by a single member directly up to a maximum of three for each country.
b) Committee members may serve as long as they are selected by their affiliated bodies. If unable to attend a Committee meeting a member may nominate an alternative to stand in his stead. If the alternative be representing a body possessing full membership, then he shall have full voting rights.
c) Representatives of associate members of the Federation shall have no voting rights.
d) Co-opted Committee members shall have no voting rights. They will serve for one year after co-option, but no co-option may be further renewed.
